Understanding resolution and the role it plays in digital imaging seems to be one of the most difficult concepts for new users to grasp. This may be due to the overwhelming number of different ways software, hardware and actual end users describe a term which falls under the general phase called "resolution." When someone starts talking about ppi (pixels per inch), dpi (dots per inch), pixels per mm, enlargement factors and so on, it is no wonder confusion ensues. Therefore, our aim is to try and explain the various concepts covering the broad term known as Resolution and if all goes as planned the reader will feel completely comfortable dealing with this complex issue.
